Three This Thursday – Beatles, Art & Film

We love Dublin. At City Language School English School Dublin we \’recommend culture\’ and we let our students know what’s going on in the great city (aka town). This week we have a look at three events that are happening near Dublin City Centre and further afield over the next few days.

Light House Cinema, Tuesday 5th November – 6pm – 11pm – FREE

The Dublin Independent Film Festival is a high-quality programme of Indie Films from all over the world. Dublin Independent Film Festival aims to discover new talent, films and filmmakers, and to recognise the collaborative work this art-form is funded on. The celebration takes place at the wonderful Light House Cinema in Smithfield. After the screening there will be an award ceremony and a networking event with filmmakers and audience opening a space to meet inspiring people from the film industry.

Beatles Day, The Workman\’s Club, Saturday 2nd November – Prices Vary

This is the 7th year of this enjoyable festival. The Beatles were from Liverpool but like many people from that city they had lots of Irish connections. George Harrison had cousins in Clontarf and was a regular visitor when he was a child.  According to the organiser\’s Facebook page, events are selling out quickly so so you need to \’get on it\’ as they say. Beatle Brain of Ireland looks particularly good fun!

Desire, IMMA, Kilmainham Hospital, Dublin 8 – FREE

This is a cracking exhibition that explores the evolving role of desire in art and life and its relationship to structures of power. Contemporary works stand alongside a selection of master works of the 20th-century and offer a unique examination of the relationship between desire, technological advancements, and its impact on social structures.

The exhibition features an exciting selection of works from world famous artists such as Dorothy Cross, Marcel Duchamp,  Tracey Emin, Max Ernst, James Joyce, René Magritte and many more.
