Sophia Leontitsi from Greece has been teaching English for almost six years. She joined City Language School over two years ago and is extremely popular with the students. When she is not busy teaching English she likes nothing more than getting out and about and enjoying the countryside near Dublin.
“I absolutely love taking long walks, exploring the city and spending time in all the parks,” she says. “Dublin has numerous parks scattered all over the place so it is great for being able to get out and getting some fresh air.\”
As part of our Teacher Recommends series, we asked her to recommend some good books for students and tell us why they might help them improve their English..
\”Any book in English is the best way to get going and improve your level of English,\” she says. \”One of my faves is Purple Hibiscus; a novel written by the Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. The story is set in postcolonial Nigeria, a country beset by political instability and economic difficulties and explores the themes of religious hypocrisy, finding one\’s voice, and the persistence of love. The story is told through Kambili Achike, a young Nigerian woman struggling to find her way in a world beset with conflict and strife. It is an exquisite novel about the emotional turmoil of adolescence, the powerful bonds of family, and the bright promise of freedom.\”
