Studying at City Language School

Three this Thursday – Buskers, Rainbows & Sculpture

Studying at City Language School can be tough. We like to drive our students forward to achieve their goals. At the end of a busy week we like to encourage our students to get out into the city itself and see what it has to offer. There is always something to do in this small but lively city and that’s why we love it so much. At City Language School English School Dublin, we let our students know what’s going on in the great city (aka town) and this week we have a look at three events that are happening near Dublin City Centre and further afield.

Busker Fleadh, Sunday 15th September, Smithfield Square, Dublin 7

Even though the amplifiers can be a complete pain in the backside, Dublin\’s buskers remain one of  the city\’s most unique charms. This free event celebrates their contribution to the city and features a line up of performers that covers a wide range of genres, ages and cultural backgrounds. Choirs, singers, soloists, fire eaters and many more will gather on the cobbled streets of Smithfield from 11.30 am for what is sure to be a lively party.

Sculpture in Context, National Botanic Gardens, Thursday 5th September – Friday 18th October

We always seem to be promoting this place. It\’s probably because it\’s lovely and there is always something on. Sculpture in Context 2019 is a thought-provoking collection of work that bridges the gap between art, nature, organic forms, and man-made objects. The National Botanic Gardens will play host to an impressive collection of contemporary works by over 120 Irish and international artists. Over 140 sculptures, from the surreal and simple to the fantastical, will be found nestling among plants and standing in the shade of the trees throughout the extensive gardens.

Every Saturday one of the participating artists will bring those interested for a guided tour through the exhibition to gain an insight into Ireland\’s largest outdoor and indoor sculpture exhibition.

Rainbow in a Box, 14 & 15 September, Dublin Castle, 9:45 – 17:15, Free

This art installation invites you to take a stroll inside a rainbow. Using prismatic light, you will experience the way the light shines through to create a canvas of colour. Pop on your white coat and step inside this magical space, where you can feel and touch the colours of the sky. This installation is part of the Dublin Fringe Festival which is on all over the city right now.
