Sky’s the Limit for Eager Edgar after Stint in First Class Business English

Edgar Davila Ortega from Chihuahua in Mexico arrived in Dublin two years ago. Though he only planned to stay for six months, he has been here for over two years. In this blog, he tells us why he stayed, what he learnt and what was so good about Business English with Barry.

Why Ireland?

“Many people from my state go to the U.S.A.,” says the 23-year-old. “But I felt that the U.S.A. is all the same. I was trying to find something bigger and I saw the programme that Ireland offers. I had a friend who was here and he explained everything to me – about studying, being able to work, being able to travel. He told me about the culture about how everyone is different and that every weekend you can go somewhere different because it is really cheap to travel (around Europe) with Ryanair. That was always one of my dreams to go to Paris and go to London. I have visited thirteen countries since I came here.”

When he arrived in Ireland, Edgar attended a different English Language School where he says the mix of speakers was not diverse enough. After a stint in a second school which “was really good”, he wanted to move away from “just studying General English”.

“I heard about this teacher, Barry, at City Language School,” he says. “I had some friends who said he was really good and I wanted to try something different. And really, he was the best teacher I ever had. I really learnt a lot. I still have all the notes here. Really good. The knowledge that he has and the way he moves the class towards the goal. I was there for six months and every day was something new and really interesting.”

“Everyone was very friendly. A lot of the other schools are very strict.”

Having arrived in Ireland as an A2 English speaker, Edgar is on his way back to Mexico as a solid C1. This will give him an excellent grounding for the next chapter in his life and City Language School is really proud to have helped on his journey. We might bump into him some day on a journey of our own if everything works out the way he plans it…

“I’m going to Miami to start university,” says Edgar. “I’m going to be a pilot. It will take two to three years. I have to build up some hours. I was studying that in Mexico before I left. I’m looking forward to it.”

With his much improved English and the life experince he picked up in Dublin, no doubt his career is ready for take off. We wish him all the best!
