Rodrigo from Spain so Glad he Came

Spaniard Rodrigo Lardiés Guillén came to Dublin in summer 2021. The Madrid native has been with us ever since and we are delighted to have him on board. We caught up with him recently to chat about all things Dublin and City Language School.

\”I came to Dublin in June 2021 to study English,\” says the 21-year-old. \”I’m studying Computer Science and Maths at university. I am staying in Dublin for the whole summer.\”

Though Dublin was not his first choice, Rodrigo is now more than happy to be here and is embracing everything the city has to offer.

\”At first I wanted to go to the USA but with Covid it was impossible to get a visa,\” he says. \”I though about the UK too but because of Brexit, Ireland is really the best option. I’m glad I chose it because I like Dublin a lot. It’s a nice place to live and Irish people are very kind.\”

\”One of the things that attracted me to Dublin at first was that Dublin people like to help you. I remember one time I didn\’t have the right charger for my phone and I went to a shop and he gave me the charger for free. They try to help you all the time. I like the parks and I like the beer too.\”

Rodrigo lives in the trendy Portobello part of town. He shares a house with five others. Living so close to the city centre, means he can walk or cycle to almost everywhere he needs to be, including of course our school in the heart of the city.

\”I have been at CLS for a month now, in Sophia’s C1 class,\” he says. \”I like it a lot. I went to other classes (in other schools in the world) and they were very different. There was more of a focus on grammar. With Sophia you are learning English in an enjoyable way. It is more dynamic. We are always speaking and using language and Sophia explains the grammar part but gives us situations that lets us put it into practice.\”

When he is not at our City Language School campus or out and about enjoying Dublin, Rodrigo works in a café in Temple Bar, \”a great place to practice English\” he says.

\” I’m looking forward to seeing more of Ireland,\” he says. \”I\’m glad I came here.\”
