More than just a Language School – Visits to the National Gallery

City Language School is more than just a language school. We pride ourselves on providing not only the best English Language tuition in the country but all those little extras that make out students’ time in the capital a memorable one. Our location, right in the heart of Dublin, means we have access to the melting pot of cultures and ideas that is the Irish capital, right on our door step.

Out and about in the National Gallery of Ireland

One of our favourite places to bring students is The National Gallery of Ireland. Situated just off Merrion Square and only a stone’s throw from Oscar Wilde’s birthplace, this gallery has been welcoming visitors for almost one hundred and sixty years. It contains works by famous international artists including Baroque masters like Caravaggio and twentieth century trailblazers such as Pablo Picasso. There are, of course, lots of works by Irish artists including the wonderful Jack B Yeats, Louis Le Brocquy and Manie Jellet.

“The National Gallery of Ireland is one of my favourite places in Dublin,” says City Language School’s Social Media Officer, Johnny Butler. “It’s so great to have this free space to go into to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The café is lovely and they have a great book shop too. But really it’s the art and the open space that draws me. It’s a very relaxing place that’s full of surprises like Picasso’s Still Life with a Mandolin.”

Given its location just ten minutes walk form our city centre campus, The National Gallery is easy to get to and well worth the visit – even if you’re not with your class.
