Meet Our Staff- Lindsey will teach in Cyprus!

Today we introduce you to Lindsey Morgan from Scotland. Lindsey is a teacher at our school in Larnaca, Cyprus

Hi Lindsey, tell us a bit about yourself.

OK well my name is Lindsey Morgan. I’m twenty-eight and from Stirling in Scotland.

Where’s that?

It’s a small but well-known town between Edinburgh and Glasgow.

OK great. How long have you been teaching English?

I’ve been teaching since 2012. I always wanted to teach. Originally, I wanted to teach History and Politics. I studied History and Politics at University of Stirling and then I went on to do a Master’s in Education at Strathclyde University. That Master’s allows me to teach in secondary schools here in Scotland but I’ve decided that I want to stick with teaching English.

Really. That’s amazing. Why?

I got into the TEFL around the same time I discovered a love for travelling and I’ve loved it ever since so I’ve stuck with it. I find that the students are more motivated in English Language Schools and I just find it a more positive environment. It’s perfect for me.

So why are you moving to Cyprus?

The first place I taught was in a school in Cyprus. I actually know the island very well because I had an uncle who lived there and so we’d be back and forth quite regularly to visit him.

It’s a beautiful place, there’s sunshine and the people are lovely. And from a student point of view there’s so much to do and there’s the weather to do it in. Also, everyone speaks English over there. Many as a first language and if it’s not their mother tongue, it’s a fluent second language. So from a student point of view it’s got everything you want and because they’re a friendly bunch, they’ll speak to you.

What do you do in your spare time?

I’m a big fan of keeping fit, going to the gym and I do Zumba. I quite enjoy it. I used to do it twice a week but now I don’t do it as often because I’m travelling around quite a bit.

What type of teacher are you?

I think you need to have a good mixture of activities, especially for summer camps. I mean they come to have fun so I try to get them learning through activities. At the same time, I’m quite aware that you do have to study the grammar so I’m not afraid to focus at least part of the lesson on that. They need to know how and why things work the way they do.

Are you looking forward to returning to Cyprus?

Oh, I can’t wait. It’s wonderful.
