Maria Sanchez from Tarragona in Spain has been teaching English for well over six years and has become integral to the team here at City Language School . Rarely seen without a smile, her students absolutely adore her.
We were able to catch with Maria recently for part of our new series Teacher Recommends, and we spoke to her about some TV programmes she loves and why she thinks they might be good for her students.
\”My favourite TV series ever is Friends and most of my students know how much I like it, she says. \”I highly recommend it. I find it hilarious. The episodes are short so it\’s perfect for unwinding when you are tired and want something funny and easy to watch.\”
\”I watched The Fall a couple of months ago and I absolutely loved it! I recommend that one too because it\’s set in Northern Ireland, students can get used to the Northern-Irish accent. We are used to the American accent in films and series, so I think it\’s great to be exposed to other accents too.\”
\”Another TV series with Irish accents is Can\’t Cope, Won\’t Cope, also on Netflix. It\’s a comedy drama about two young women in Dublin. I watched it a while ago and I really enjoyed it. And it\’s set in Dublin, so seeing places we know on screen is a plus.\”

\”The last one, I\’ve been watching Sherlock recently. Sherlock is set in London, so we have exposure to the British accent here. It\’s really interesting to see the ingenious methods Sherlock and John use to solve the most unusual cases.\”
