City Language School is \”awesome\”. So says 26-year-old Burcu Tasdelen who came to Ireland in March 2021 and studied with us until May. She is now back home in Lyons, France but we were delighted to catch up with her by phone to talk about her experience with us in Dublin.
Friendly Dublin

\”I had originally planned to study in London but because of Brexit, I had to change my plans,\” says Burcu about her decision to come to Dublin. \”My agent in France recommended Dublin to me and it was an easy decision. I came to Dublin before with my sister and we travelled around Ireland for a week.\”
When she arrived in Ireland, Burcu found accommodation in Temple Bar where she stayed for the duration of her stay. She lived with several different nationalities and her friend Tugba.
\”I like Dublin because it is close to France and I think Irish people are friendly. I had a great experience when I came to visit with my sister and when I came back it was just great. I like Irish people and Irish culture. It is different from French culture and Turkish culture. I am French but with a Turkish background so I know both of those cultures.\”
City Language School – Awesome

Due to COVID-19 and Irish government policy around schools, Burcu spent most of her time studying with City Language School online. This didn\’t take away from the experience she says.
\”It was awesome,\” she says. \”There is a diversity of teaching methods. I studied with Maria. She is a great teacher. She was friendly, attentive, a great listener and very creative. I also had Padraig for my last week and he was great too. There are also lots of extra classes that you can participate in out of your main lessons.\”
\”I think the most important thing though is that you feel very comfortable. You study English but at the same time you have fun, you meet new people from different countries so you learn a lot about life and become very open-minded and more mature. We didn\’t just talk about English (speaking) cultures.\”
Burcu has worked as a Data Analyst for five years. She is now going on to do a Master\’s Degree in Economic and Business Analysis. This was one of the main reasons she wanted to improve her English. Burcu says that her time spent with City Language School has helped her immensely towards that goal.
\”Before I came to the school I could not build a sentence,\” she says. \”Now I can speak and explain myself. I didn\’t want to have perfect English, I just wanted to explain myself. I think I can do that right now.\”
