Dublin Hits the High Notes for Hugo

17-year-old Hugo Seurre from Belgium came to study English at City Language School in September 2020. He has just completed his high school studies and hopes to go on to study Literature at University. Last week, we chatted to him about his time in Dublin and his time with City Language School.

How has your experience with City Language School been so far?

For the moment I’m really delighted with it. But unfortunately because of the COVID-19 lockdown we are forced to do the online class. But the school was prepared for it. With Zoom and these kinds of tools, the class goes very well, so I’m happy with it. The teachers are great.

Who is your teacher at the moment?

It’s Sara. She is really cheerful. She is always smiling. Her class is always interesting.

How do you think your English course will compliment or help you later on at third level?

I studied English in Belgium. In High School, we learn grammar and vocabulary and we don’t speak much. With your school we speak a lot more. We have a lot of speaking exercises; with the teacher, with the students. And that is the most important thing for a non-native speaker I think. Sara gives us feedback and sometimes corrects our mistakes and it helps a lot.

How has your time with your host family been? Where are you staying in Dublin?

I’m staying with Ann O’Sullivan near Marley Park. She is very good to me. She always speaks with me and takes care of me.
