At this stage you’ve probably guessed that the gang here at City Language School are big fans of Christmas. Last week we wrote about some great places near our school where you could buy some unique Irish presents for your loved ones back home, the week before that we told you about the best pubs for Christmas. This week, we want you to explore some Christmas Markets close to our school so without further ado…
The Dublin Castle Christmas Market
Although it’s small, this market is set in the impressive grounds of Dublin Castle.
In previous years, the castle was decked out with fairy lights and the entrance to the castle grounds was lined with Christmas trees.
When we last visited, the main market was held within the courtyard where there were lots of stalls selling festive fare, a carousel and an open-air bar. You can expect something similar this year starting on December 8th and given that it is only two minutes walk from our city centre campus, it’s definitely worth a visit.

Farmleigh Christmas Market, Phoenix Park
A little further from our city centre cmapus, the popular weekend markets return to the grounds of Farmleigh House in the Phoenix Park throughout December. There is plenty for all the family to enjoy so if you’re an au pair and need to keep the kids happy why not bring them here. You’ll find carol-singing, puppet shows and storytelling sessions, as well as lots of food and craft stalls. All events are free, but some require tickets due to limited capacity. With any luck you might even bump into the President of Ireland while here or see him out walking his dogs. The market takes place every Saturday and Sunday in December from 10am to 5pm.
Eco Christmas Craft Markets, Botanic Gardens

We are big fans of this place so anything that happens here we are going to support. This traditional Christmas craft market in the Botanic Gardens is a great way of getting some gifts and spending some time amongst the flowers and plants of this wonderful oasis of calm. With over seventy stalls both indoors and outdoors, you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to sustainable gifts, crafty decorations and tasty seasonal treats. The market runs for a limited time only on Decmeber 10th and 11th from 10am to 4pm.
