Three This Thursday – Bacon, Baking & Traditional Music Making

At City Language School we like to encourage our students to get out, about and practice their English while discovering more about the great city and country they live in. Every Thursday we publish Three This Thursday – events or happenings that we believe they might enjoy. This week we have Bacon, Baking and Traditional Music Making.

Hugh Lane Gallery – FREE

It\’s back open and if you\’ve never been now is a great time to visit the Hugh Lane Gallery in Parnell Square, Dublin 1. You\’ll find some of the most stunning paintings in 20th century European art including Monet’s Waterloo Bridge or Manet’s Music in the Tuileries Gardens. This is also home to the Francis Bacon Studio. The famous Irish painter spent much of his creative life in London. When he died his Soho studio was transferred to Dublin – wall by wall, brush by brush, photo by photo. It is an amazing insight into the workings of a creative mind.

Traditional Music – Devitt\’s Pub, Camden Street, Dublin 2 – Saturday 7.45pm

Traditional Irish music sessions in central Dublin are fast becoming a thing of the past, and the total number of pubs offering trad is now in single figures.

Music sessions in Devitt’s have an authenticity you won’t come by in other pubs; that could be down to the locals taking part and joining in, and at times the whole pub singing together, to both trad and more contemporary songs. Come on down and have some socially distant fun.

Online Baking Workshop with Boozy Bakers – 2pm on Facebook

Of course online isn\’t going away and the great thing about this whole pandemic disaster is that more people are doing things online. I\’m not sure how we missed this one but better late than never as they say.

The guys at Boozy Bakers have been giving online workshops on how to make some of their favourite bakes. This week, they will show you how to make Olive Bread right here

You can have a bit of fun and learn how to make something new.
